Homemade cakes, speciality teas, delicious local produce and a warm welcome are all hallmarks of a great tea room. Here are some favourites...

No 6 The Square, Buxton
A past winner of Tea/Coffee House of the Year at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards, this Victorian-style tearoom has a superb selection of baked goods, sandwiches and speciality teas. Its attractive Victorian premises are ideally located at the centre of this thriving spa town. Buxton SK17 6AZ

Hassop Station
An ideal stop-off on a walk or bike ride along the Monsal Trail, this family friendly café serves breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas that can be enjoyed on the terrace or in the light and bright refurbished station building. There’s also a book and gift shop, play area and cycle hire. Hassop, nr Bakewell DE45 1NW

Woodlands Tea Room, Charlesworth
Afternoon tea is an elegant affair at this award-winning tea room which serves homemade soups, pies, scones and cakes created using Peak District produce, plus drinks including locally brewed beer. Monthly musical teas include live entertainment from a pianist. Woodseats Lane, Charlesworth, Glossop SK13 5DP

Aisseford Tea Room, Ashford in the Water
Enjoy warm, freshly-made scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, homemade cakes, ice-cream, lunches, teas and coffees in this quaint tearoom, or opt for a ‘takeaway’ picnic to enjoy by the river. Church Street, Ashford in the Water, Bakewell DE45 1QB

Edensor Tea Cottage
White-washed stone walls and warming log-burners create a homely environment inside this pretty Estate cottage. Breakfasts, light meals, traditional afternoon tea and cakes are created using fresh ingredients – the perfect follow-up to a walk around Chatsworth. Edensor, Chatsworth Estate DE45 1PH

Lavender Tea Room, Bakewell
Tea and homemade cakes served on traditional china make for a delightful experience when visiting here. The charming décor includes vintage memorabilia and there’s outside seating in the sheltered courtyard. More substantial meals include Welsh rarebit, fishcakes and omelettes. Hebden Court, Matlock St, Bakewell DE45 1EE
