An exclusive tour of Nottinghamshire's Open Gardens

Summer is on its way and with it the first open gardens in Nottinghamshire – so what have our best gardens in store for us?

There are more than 50 gardens opening their gates to the public this year between May and September all helping to raise millions of pounds for vital charities.

The gardens are all featured in the National Garden Schemes Yellow Book 2010, a compendium of more than 3,700 gardens in England and Wales open to the public this year.

They range from rolling country estates to small private gardens and many are not otherwise open to the public.

Founded in 1927, the NGS has raised more than 25 million for charity in the last 10 years. Charities include Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices, Crossroads Care, The Queens Nursing Institute, The Royal Fund for Gardeners Children, NGS gardeners careerships (National Trust) and Perennial Gardeners Royal Benevolent Society.
