The Chef of the Year category is dedicated to championing Derbyshire or Peak District based chefs who have devoted themselves to the cause of serving the best possible food within the region.

Winner: Jon Hardy of The Lighthouse, Boylestone

The winner of this category is someone who the judges described as ‘skilful, imaginative, committed – and a true master of his craft’. He’s been described as one of the area’s most talented – and entrepreneurial - chefs. Not only is he a chef, he’s also an owner of a very successful restaurant.

Highly commended: Dan Smith – The Peacock, Rowsley

The judges have awarded their Highly Commended accolade to a chef who ‘strives for excellence and prides himself on producing thoughtful, imaginative dishes using local ingredients’. Congratulations to Dan Smith of The Peacock, Rowsley.

• Darren Goodwin – Losehill House Hotel, Hope

• Michael Thompson – The Cavendish Hotel, Baslow
