Once a Smithy and a quaint cottage pub, the Shire Horse has transformed into a traditional free house – minus the blacksmith!!

Taken over in December 2012, with the intention of restoring the excellent reputation of this once loved pub, it is the now the heart and soul of the local village.

Boasting spectacular views of the Derbyshire Dales, a great reputation for producing high quality food and friendly staff-we provide the perfect English pub experience.

The Shire Horse Restaurant coupled with its exquisite views of the countryside makes it the perfect location. Testimonial for a recent diner :-

“My family were visiting the area for a few days, staying in a nearby rental cottage. The nearest pub was The Shire Horse and was easily walk-able, so we decided we would eat there the first evening to see what it was like.

Several days later and having tried several of the other pubs in the area, we came to the conclusion that The Shire Horse was in a class of its own.”

“The Shire Horse had the best value food, the nicest people and the best kept pint of beer. If you are in the area, you should try it yourself!”
