With Christmas just around the corner, what better way to soak up the magic than at a local Christmas market?

18th-19th November

Peak Village Christmas Market

Get a head start on your Christmas shopping at this festive market and Christmas lights switch-on event, which includes stalls selling handcrafted gifts and delicious food and drink, plus live entertainment for all ages. Makers mini-markets which showcase everything from handmade food to jewellery, all made in Derbyshire and the surrounding areas, will also be held on 12th November and 10th December.

11th-12th November

Fabulous Places Christmas Market

Over 100 hand-selected stallholders will be selling their wares – ranging from home-made food, jewellery and gifts to accessories for the home and garden – in the spectacular surroundings of the Grade II listed Derby Roundhouse. Alongside festive refreshments there will be a pop-up tea room and, for the first time this year, a series of festive workshops, giving visitors the chance to learn festive brush calligraphy or create mini gingerbread houses, decorative paper trees and winter floral decorations (booking essential).

17th-19th November

Winter Artisan Market

Local artisans will be selling a range of quality items for the home and garden, seasonal food and drink, and arts and crafts in the atmospheric surroundings of Haddon Hall – a magical and romantic location for a winter market.

17th November-5th December

Chatsworth Christmas Market

Browse over 100 high quality stalls selling fine gifts and decorations, homeware, seasonal produce, jewellery, clothing and inspired stocking fillers. Then take a break from shopping and enjoy a glass of mulled wine or German beer at one of the outdoor bars, whilst listening to live music and sampling hot food including gourmet burgers and sausages, pork rolls, pancakes and churros.

19th November

Chesterfield Christmas Market

Chesterfield will be bathed in a magical glow at its annual Christmas lights switch-on event and market. There will be festive entertainment, stalls, games and rides in the Market Place and New Square, whilst from 3.30pm onwards a glittering stage show with Peak FM will provide plenty of action for the whole family.

25th-26th November

Bakewell Christmas Market

This ‘quintessentially English Christmas market’ includes traders from the town’s popular Monday market plus over 80 seasonal stalls selling a selection of speciality festive foods and wines from the Peak District, unique arts and crafts, and innovative gifts. Entertainment on Saturday includes live music, festive singing from local schools and choirs, and the Christmas lights switch-on event in Bath Gardens at 4.45pm – whilst a highlight on Sunday will be a visit from Santa’s reindeer.

26th November & 10th December

Mercia Marina Christmas Market

Europe’s largest inland marina will provide a scenic backdrop for two unique Christmas shopping experiences in the south of county. There will be stalls selling gifts, handmade items, food and drink on 26th November, plus a food and festivities market on 10th December, with rousing live entertainment and seasonal refreshments.

1st-3rd December 

Matlock Victorian Christmas Market

Having attracted an estimated 20,000 visitors last year, the town’s Victorian-themed Christmas market combines over 170 stalls with colourful street entertainment including a marching band and a fun fair. The Christmas lights switch-on event takes place on Saturday, whilst proceedings are brought to a dramatic close with a fireworks display on Sunday.

Offering a wide range of products from local traders and small businesses, this vibrant market is the perfect place to find interesting Christmas gifts.

Belper Christmas Food & Real Ale Festival

Purchase ingredients for the perfect Christmas spread, buy unique gifts for a hamper and feast on fresh produce as you browse at this popular open-air market in the town centre. The huge range of items from local producers will include real ale, cheese, meats, cakes, pies and preserves.

9th-10th December

Buxton Christmas Fair

Following the Pavilion Gardens’ Christmas lights switch-on event and Grand Bazaar on 17th November – which will include an appearance from Lucy Dixon (Hollyoaks, Waterloo Road), carol singing and children’s rides – the Christmas Fair promises to continue the festivities. Stroll down the promenade with a Christmas tipple or a warm mince pie, before viewing a range of locally-made gifts in the Gardens Marquee.

15th December

Swadlincote Christmas Mega Market

Swadlincote’s regular outdoor markets are renowned in the south of the county and this event, held in the town centre, combines the best of the traditional and farmers’ markets with stalls selling gifts, decorations, food and drink, plus children’s entertainment, fairground rides and carol singing.
