From relaxing and unwinding to being pampered to perfection, there are many reasons to indulge in some down-time at a spa. You can jumpstart a healthy lifestyle, have fun with friends or simply get away from it all. In Derbyshire, we are incredibly lucky to have a splendid selection of spas and salons, all offering the perfect opportunity for a little indulgence. I payed a visit to Barcel Buxton Palace Hotels beauty rooms, where great treatments, a serene atmosphere and excellent facilities are enough to keep even the most apprehensive spa-goers coming back for more.

On arrival, I was cheerfully greeted in the bright reception area and shown to the comfortable waiting room where there was plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere, sip on a choice of drinks and browse the vast list of therapies available. After being introduced to my fabulous therapist, Hannah, I was handed my fluffy white robe and allowed to enjoy the facilities the complex had to offer before my treatments began.

Open to both hotel guests and club members, the spa is brimming with activity and though the pool area was busy, it wasnt overcrowded. The water temperature was magically perfect and besides the pool the hotel boasts a steam room, sauna and modern fitness centre with state-of-the-art gym equipment.

After enjoying every inch of the wonderful facilities, I returned to the beauty rooms to begin the first therapies in my Treat Me Package an indulgent choice including lunch in the Dovedale restaurant, a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure.

Hannah explained that my massage and facial would be carried out using chemical-free products by Declor a brand highly acclaimed for their fragranced Aromatherapy oils and shelves throughout the treatment rooms displayed their products in abundance.

The treatment room itself was faultlessly clean and well-lit, with gentle music playing quietly and cool-coloured chiffon billowing lightly at the windows, creating an air of private tranquillity.

Hannah began the mini-massage by applying a variety of lotions to my shoulders and through a combination of pressure techniques, she targeted problem areas in my upper back where we commonly hold tension. My muscles instantly felt soothed and the tingly sensation of the oils continued long after I had turned over ready for my facial.

This rejuvenating treatment began with an intensive cleanser followed by an exfoliating wash, toner, and a sensitive-skin face mask all perfectly suited to my needs. Whilst the mask was working its magic, I was left alone in the room to completely relax before the facial was finished off with a face, neck and shoulder massage bliss!

Feeling pampered and preened, I was given a few moments for contemplation before being led to the manicure room where a vast array of Jessica Nails products awaited. Oils and ointments were massaged into my cuticles and as Hannah filed, clipped and tidied, I relaxed with a mug of hot chocolate.

After the flawless manicure had been sealed with a ceramic glaze I retired to the quiet relaxation area. A row of wicker recliners with comfy cushions looked most inviting after my wind-down session and tranquil bird-song in this room allows guests to bask in the soporific effects of post-treatment heaven. It would have been so easy to fall asleep, but I was easily awoken at the thought of a mouth-watering visit to the restaurant. The service was brilliant and the wide choice of meals available from exotic salads to spicy curry promise the perfect finish to a day of indulgence for any seasoned spa guest.

The beauty rooms at the Barcel Buxton Palace Hotel hotel offer an excellent getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and anyone who fancies an unrivalled experience of pampering and relaxation in this beautiful corner of the county wont be disappointed.

Other tempting treatments available at the Barcel Buxton Palace Hotel include:

Mens Aromatherapy Facial
Incorporating a back, scalp, hand and arm massage, this holistic treatment is renowned for improving skin tone and appearance.

Garra Rufa Fish Spa
Tiny fish gently filter the dead skin from your feet in this interesting treatment, stimulating acupuncture points and leaving feet feeling soft and refreshed.
