Derbyshire Agricultural & Horticultural Society organised another excellent and successful show for its 139th, which was celebrating a return to the Elvaston Showground.

Despite an absence of cattle and sheep classes, a packed programme of events and exhibits kept everyone entertained. The return of Big Pete the Monster Truck and Grim Reaper saw crowds eagerly gathering round the main ring and the promised flypast of one of the most iconic planes of the Second World War, a Supermarine Spitfire, had all eyes scanning the sky. In addition there were numerous horse classes, vintage vehicles, dog and poultry shows, the pick of the season's blooms in floral art, bees, crafts, food and drink and demonstrations of rural and countryside crafts. Chairman Edward Hicklin said: 'We were delighted with the turnout this year, the weather was on our side and we welcomed one of the best crowds to the Show in six years so I would like to thank everyone who came to the event which made it such a success, despite the missing sheep and cattle. It was wonderful to see the ground at Elvaston so busy and it has given us all renewed confidence that the 140th Derbyshire County Show next June will be bigger and better!'
