The Christmas lights switch-on marks the start of the festive period in the centre of our towns and villages. We’ve compiled a list of what’s happening in your area.

17th November

Buxton Christmas Lights Switch On

The Grand Bazaar in the Pavilion Gardens is the perfect place to start your Christmas shopping this year. The Grand Bazaar will run from 2pm until 8pm with the lights due to switch on at 6:30pm

18th November

Castleton Christmas Lights Switch On

Santa will parade the streets of Castleton in a pony & carriage and then switch the lights on outside the Toll Bar Gift Shop in Cross Street at 4.30pm.

Derby Christmas Lights Switch On

Join a festive parade with your family and then enjoy a variety of entertainment on the Market Place stage, leading up to the big switch-on event around 6pm

19th November

Chesterfield Christmas Lights Switch On

Chesterfield will be bathed in a magical glow at its annual Christmas lights switch-on event and market. There will be festive entertainment, stalls, games and rides in the Market Place and New Square, whilst from 3.30pm onwards a glittering stage show with Peak FM will provide plenty of action for the whole family.

24th November

Swadlincote Christmas Lights Switch On

It’s all happening in Swadlincote on the 24th November. There’s a Christmas Craft Fair, a live broadcast from Touch FM, Sanat skiing down a slope in a torchlit descent and the switch on and fireworks display at 7pm.

Belper Christmas Lights Switch On

An evening of festive entertainment includes performances from Belper Town Wind Band, Punch & Judy Shows, Children’s Rides, Santa’s Grotto with the switch on in the Memorial Gardens.

25th November

Ashbourne Christmas Lights Switch On

From the Dark Side to the Light Side. Darth Vader and his imperial forces turn on Ashbourne’s Christmas lights in the Market Place at 5:30 pm.

25th November

Bakewell Christmas Lights Switch On

The Bakewell switch is twinned with the annual Christmas market that takes place over the weekend of 25th-26th November. Entertainment on Saturday includes live music, festive singing from local schools and choirs, and the Christmas Tree lights switch-on event in Bath Gardens at 4.45pm.

1st December

Ilkeston Christmas Lights Switch On

Ilkeston Brass Band will get the event underway at the Market Place at 5.30pm, there is plenty of entertainment planned to take you through to 7pm when the Mayor of Erewash officially opens the festive period with the light switch on.

2nd December

Matlock Christmas Lights Switch On

The Christmas lights will be switched on by Jessica Revell of CBBC's 'Tracey Beaker Returns) on Saturday 2nd December as part of the Matlock Victorian Christmas Market weekend that takes place between the 1st-3rd December
