Homeowners paying too much for their heating have been given a huge boost this month with the announcement that the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) has been passed into law.

The scheme, which has just gone live, covers a range of renewable heating technologies including biomass boilers, air and ground source heat pumps, and solar thermal panels.

The Domestic RHI is similar in structure to the popular Feed-in Tariff scheme that has seen a huge increase in the number of solar PV installations in recent years. The RHI scheme pays renewable heating system owners for every kilowatt-hour of heat their technology produces.

A biomass boiler installation will earn 12.2p per kilowatt-hour. The payments last for seven years and are index linked.

A typical biomass boiler installation will earn anywhere from £2,000 per year up to £10,000 per year and more for larger properties. This means that biomass boiler installations now represent an incredible form of financial investment.

Alongside the RHI payments, wood pellets are a significantly cheaper and more price-stable form of heating than oil or LPG, so for customers off the gas grid biomass boilers will earn you an income and slash your heating bills in one go.

Phaseline Renewables is a government accredited renewable energy installer, specialising in biomass boilers. It is one of the most experienced biomass installers in the country, with a portfolio ranging from 20kW domestic installations right up to 180kW commercial district heating systems.

Technical Director Aiden Murfin of Mickleover, Derby, believes that the Domestic RHI will see a huge increase in biomass boiler installations across Derbyshire – ‘We have been fitting biomass boilers across Derbyshire and Yorkshire for years, so we’re delighted that the government now offer such a fantastic financial incentive for these domestic systems.’

“I chose Phaseline for my biomass boiler installation after doing a lot of research. I have not been disappointed. They have great customer service and the system is performing very well. The team understood what my requirements were, put together a compelling business case and the installation went smoothly”

Stephen Oliver, Wyaston, Derbyshire

“I have rarely, if ever, come across a company as thorough and helpful as Phaseline. The installation of our biomass system was handled with the utmost professionalism and support. The workers were incredibly helpful and careful and nothing was too much trouble, within reason. The technical knowledge is superb and the finished job standard is excellent. I am so pleased I chose this company - not the cheapest but very, very hard to beat”.
