The weather was kind, the turn-out was impressive and the procession led by the BMW band was full of memorable floats and fancy dress on foot and horseback! Carnival Queen and King Meredith Wilkinson and Christopher Day and rosebud and page boy, Chloe Allcock and Fraser McGuire graced the Royal Float. Wild West was named best float, despite cowboys liberally spraying the crowds with water. Indian-themed Brassy Wood came second and Pirates of the Caribbean third. Cleopatra and Antony (Amie and Ben Hutty) and Cowboy and Indian (Jacob Allsop and Rebecca Murfin) led the mounted fancy dress class. The summer fete that followed went with a real swing with games and activities as well as a beer tent, cream teas and the local fish and chip van (a real treat).
In addition this year the Big Bash and Beer Festival and Wicker Man Burning continued the fun well into the evening with barbecue, music and dancing. Carnival event organiser Charley Torr commented: A massive thank you to the Carnival Committee and everyone who has been involved this year with Carnival Day. Together we have made 1,314 for the Prostate Cancer Charity, so it really was worth it! Our Wakes Week grand finale has been a day and a night to remember forever.
