Derbyshire County Council's annual Excellence in the Community Awards to honour individuals, groups, businesses, voluntary groups and charities that are making a difference to the lives of others, were held at Buxton's Dome
Derbyshire County Councils annual Excellence in the Community Awards to honour individuals, groups, businesses, voluntary groups and charities that are making a difference to the lives of others, were held at Buxtons Dome. The awards recognise achievements in six categories: fundraising for good causes; volunteering in the community; protecting Derbyshires environment; helping make Derbyshire a safer place to live, work and visit; improving life by helping create closer, caring and active communities; and promoting Derbyshire through sporting, musical, academic or artistic success. Of the many deserving people and groups nominated, 80 inspiring winners from every part of the county were chosen. Certificates and glass trophies were presented by Chairman of the County Council, Cllr George Wharmby. County Council Leader, Cllr Andrew Lewer, commented: Derbyshire is very fortunate to have people who volunteer, raise money, look after our environment, and help others to stay safe. Our annual awards are a way of bringing the community together to say thank you and recognise the amazing work of dozens of people. Award winners ranged from groups who have worked tirelessly to improve their environment to individuals who run local clubs for the community or have raised vast amounts of money for charity.
