Diamond Jubilee Sherborne Castle Country Fair and Rare Breeds Show

It's a Diamond Jubilee day out for all the family at this country fair...

This Jubilee Bank HolidaySherborne Castle will be at thecentre of the towns DiamondJubilee celebrations. The Fair, whoseaim is to raise funds for West Countrychildrens charities, has added 775,000 to the charity pot over its 16 year run.This has been boosted in recent yearsby the hugely popular Dragon Boatracing event, where teams from local businesses, clubs and pubs can raise money for their own chosen charities through sponsorship. Why not get ateam together to take part?


As part of this years Jubilee theme, there will be a Jubilee Hat parade and competition open to all ages in the Main Ring at 2.30pm. Entries will be acceptedon the day at the Secretarys Tent. Thisyears Dog Show also gets in on theroyal theme with a category for the best dressed Jubilee dogs and young handler. The patriotic theme has also been embraced by the Dorset Rare Breeds Survival Trust who will be holding a Fancy Dress competition for sheep and young handlers as part of the Rare Breeds Show at the Fair.


In addition to all the Jubilee themedcelebrations there will be over 50attractions, displays and events rangingfrom the old favourites such as terrierracing and ferret racing, the Parade ofHounds and a falconry display; youngermembers will love the solar-powered BigTop, circus clowns, puppets, and funfair; while boys young and old will enjoythe vintage car show, have-a-go fishing,archery and laser shooting.


New this year will be the spectacular tightrope clown, Bernie Bennett and cookery demonstrations by the DorsetFarmers Market. The Stanchester FolkChoir will be serenading the crowds and local young gymnasts and dancing dogswill be performing in the Main Ring (notat the same time!). Meanwhile thePiratebears Newfoundland Dogs will bedemonstrating their doggy derring-dorescuing drowning people from thelake by Sherborne Castle.


With over 300 trade stands including local hand made goods in the Craft Courtyard, this Fair will truly be a fantastic day out; its a great way to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and raise some money for a very good cause.
