When Milford Car Home, based at Milford House, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a grand casino night, there was even more reason to celebrate: the home has just earned the accolade of excellence by the Care Quality Commission, the body which regulates care homes in the UK. This is also the second time Milford House has been granted a three star quality rating in the four years the inspection has been operating. The delighted manager, Sharon Price, said the award was a tribute to the care offered at Milford House: Were a family-run business and I like to think were all one big family here. We treat our residents as if they are our own mum and dad.

Milford House opened to residents in 1985, over 200 years on from the time Jedediah Strutt built it as his family mansion. Belpers Mayor, Cllr John Nelson, was invited to open the casino night and spoke warmly of the care his mother received when she was a resident. The Mayor joined staff, invited guests and residents in the casino rooms where they tried their hand at roulette and cards. The evening was rounded off by a release of Chinese flying lanterns.
